Shortly after news about the audio clips spread across the interwebs like wildfire, a person named "BJ" claimed to be the initial leaker, saying she's a rookie player of the said game and goes by the username "Hi Bboom" which was also mentioned in the recordings.

The player explained, "I noticed EXO members have been playing online games for a while now. As soon as they began playing, they said, 'Hi Bboom, enter 1212', and that's how I gained access to their game room which had the password '1212'."

She continued, "As I observed their 'League of Legends' activities, I was able to hack into their chat room. Soon enough, they stopped chatting so I hacked into their TalkOn accounts (voice chatting program used in-game). I also installed two programs, Team Voice and Talk On, then I looked for the 'Hi Bboom' game room. When I got in, I recorded the conversation with my cell phone and the keyboard typing sound in the clip was me."

The person also mentioned that EXO's Sehun and Baekhyun are her favourite celebs and she "felt her heart race" as she recorded their voices.

Netizens who've heard the clips also commented on how some parts of the recording were edited. The leaker explained, "I cut out all the insignificant parts [in the recording]. I also cut out some parts such as when Sehun mentioned their current address. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I posted them."

However, the leaker realized the large-scale damage and controversy the recorded clips have inflicted. Thus she released a brief apology. "After seeing the new articles, I fear the situation is already worse. I am writing this because I know I should apologise even though it might be too late. I bow my head in apology. I will  see them from now on through better broadcasts. Please give a lot of love to [EXO's] fan club."
