SHINee member Jonghyun and Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon are hitting the high notes together on their latest duet for SM The Ballad titled, “Breath”. However, despite being regarded as SM Entertainment’s top vocalists, Jonghyun admitted that he’s still jealous of Taeyeon’s singing abilities.
In an interview with Mnet’s “Wide Entertainment News – The Music Interview” on February 18, Jonghyun commented on Taeyeon’s singing and said, “Taeyeon’s has expertly expresses her emotions when singing. It gives me the feeling that she’s really been through a lot, and that she has experienced love and separation. I felt the same way even when Taeyeon was still a student and trainee. She was born with this remarkable talent to express herself.”
Furthermore, Jonghyun shared that back when he was still a trainee, hearing Taeyeon sing made him so envious because she was really good.
Jonghyun also opened up about SM’s internal trainee review system, and said, “Every time our scores were revealed, Taeyeon was always first and I was only second to her. It’s not that I wanted to beat Taeyeon, but I want to the review every weekend, in the hopes that I would have the chance to score number 1 at least once. So I listened to Taeyeon sing and observed her.”
Nevertheless, Taeyeon and Jonghyun have proven themselves to be two of the best voices in K-pop. The duo is currently promoting together with SM The Ballad for “Breath”.
