The culprit behind the malicious rumours attacking JYJ member Jaejoong on the internet has been caught and punished with a fine.
The Seoul Central District Court announced on February 21 that the suspect has been with 1.5 million won (approximately 1,400 USD) for defaming the singer.
Judge Yang stated, "The defendant arbitrarily interpreted, reproduced on a large scale, and maliciously fabricated rumours that were being talked about on the internet, severely damaging the victim's (Jaejoong) reputation. It does not matter that the victim is a celebrity in whom the general public has interest in. As long as the content of the defamation strongly affected his private life, it is appropriate to deem his offenses damaging."
In August to September of 2012, a lot of slanderous rumours targeting Jaejoong's family circulated internet forums.
During the court trial, the suspect claimed that he purposely pretended to be an anti-fan, thinking that he would provoke sympathy for Jaejoong.
This is simply one of the more recent instances of celebrities firing back at internet bashers for posting false and severely damaging rumours against them.
