Yang Hyun Suk Donates 1 Billion KRW To YG Foundation

YG Entertainment launches the YG Foundation of the agency's celebration of its 18th anniversary.

On May 20, YG Entertainment revealed that they have established the YG Foundation, a non-profit foundation that aims to help youths in need. The YG Foundation was created in celebration of the agency’s 18th birthday.

The full name of the charity is actually Muju YG Foundation, with “muju” meaning “ownerless” to signify how the charity will continue help those in need and strive for change for generations to come.

Specifically the YG Foundation hopes to provide help in terms of assisting in medical costs and granting scholarships. The foundation will also be working hand in hand with YG Entertainment’s artists for its upcoming cultural activities. In addition, it has also partnered with YG artists’ project-for-a-cause called “YG WITH Campaign”, which is spearheaded by Sean and Jung Hye Won and participated by other YG artists and employees. The YG WITH Campaign has helped out many heart patients through “Dream Gift” since 2009.

To commemorate the birth of the foundation, Yang Hyun Suk made a jaw-dropping donation of 1,000,000,000 Korean Won. Other than his donation to the charity, Yang Hyun Suk also expressed his generosity by his compassionate donation of 500 million Korean Won to the victims of the Sewol Ferry incident.

True enough, YG Entertainment grown into a reputable and strong agency in the last 18 years, launching the careers of some of today’s top and most renowned idols such as 2NE1, Big Bang, Epik High, Akdong Musician, and more. In 2014 alone, YG artist 2NE1 had the most top-charting K-Pop releases in 2014 with “Crush”. Shortly after, Akdong Musician became one of the fastest rising rookie duos with their debut album “Play”.

Meanwhile, YG Entertainment is preparing for Big Bang’s much anticipated group return, with Taeyang making a solo release on June 2 to spice things up the road to the group’s official comeback.
