BoA's Mom Says Singer Was A Bright Student But Was Bullied As Well

BoA's mom appeared on TV to share stories from BoA's childhood. BoA's mother, Sung Young Ja, recently appeared in a TV appearance where she shared stories about the singer's childhood.

BoA's mother, Sung Young Ja, recently appeared in a TV appearance where she shared stories about the singer's childhood. On the June 5 broadcast of "Good Morning", BoA's mother made a special appearance as the mother who raised a successful child. She appeared on the show together with BoA's older brother, Kwon Soon Hweon.

Mom Sung Young Ja talked about BoA's achievement in middle school, "When BoA was in 6^th grade, she placed first in her entire school and was also a recipient of a scholarship. Even though BoA was certainly bright enough to get into the class for gifted students, her dreams of becoming a singer conflicted with her academics."

She continued, "I wanted BoA to become a professor. She would always round up the younger kids and was great at teaching them something. I told her she should become a professor as she excelled well in her studies and she was exceptional. However, BoA loved singing and said this was something else she wanted to pursue. So she began practicing as a trainee while attending school. Her album came out while she was still in school."

But before BoA could reach the success she has now, she also met a few bumps in the road, such as having to face bullies in class. BoA's mother recalled, "BoA grew out her hair when she was promoting solo activities at such a young age. One day, older students at school dragged her towards the bathroom, grabbed her by the hair, and said, 'Why are you growing out your hair?' [The people who bullied her] were individuals who served sunbaes."

BoA's mom also shared that BoA eventually had to drop out of school because it was difficult to focus both on her career and her studies.

Indeed, BoA is a true example of a role model-good in her craft, but excelling in her studies as well.
