Roommate's Park Min Woo Doses Off While Driving, Viewers Raise Concern

In the latest episode of “Roommate”, Park Min Woo caused a controversy after footage of him driving while drowsy was featured.

In the latest episode of “Roommate”, Park Min Woo caused a controversy after footage of him driving while drowsy was featured.

Park Min Woo was in charge of driving despite looking obviously tired. However, he reassured everyone else that he’s doing okay, saying, Don't worry, we're not going to get into an accident.”

However, throughout the drive, he continued to yawn even more and had begun to drift to sleep, which then caused his roommates to worry. "We'll switch when we get to a rest area," said Seo Kang Joon who was in the passenger seat. But Park Min Woo declined, saying he was fine.

But despite these, the car started drifting towards the guardrail, and Park Min Woo didn’t even respond when he was tapped on the shoulder. Just moments before the car would collide with the guardrail, Park Min Woo woke up and adjusted his driving.

In a solo interview, Park Min Woo said, "If there was a hole, I would've hidden in it. I was so sorry and apologetic. It was my first experience with something like that, so I didn't know how to react. I couldn't look my roommates in the eyes.

However, it seems that a lot of viewers weren’t so pleased with SBS broadcasting this footage on the show. Hence, the producer of “Roommate” issued an official statement explaining why they decided to feature Park Min Woo’s drowsy driving.

The producer, Park Sang Hyuk, told Newsen on July 14, "It could have looked very dangerous because of the music and captions edited in, but in truth, there was no accident or emergency. This part was not edited out because we wanted to show the process of conflict and resolution for Seo Kang Jun's team through this situation.

Later on, there's a part in which the members disclose their deep inner thoughts. I think people would be more able to understand why we broadcasted [that scene] if they saw that part too."
