Authorities at that time have said that the reason of the accident was due to a mechanical defect in the vehicle the girls rode in. However, a new report from news outlet, Star News says that after a thorough investigation of the National Institute of Scientific Investigation or NISI, was not due to a mechanical defect of the car but due to a human error.

The police station in charge of the investigation of the car accident, Yongin Seobu, had appointed the National Institute of Scientific Investigation for a more thorough study of the accident. The results of the investigation explained that the back wheel of the car fell off after the car hit the barrier. The driver of the vehicle however reported initially that the wheel had come off first causing them to hit the barrier.

A representative from the police station told Star News, "The driver went over the speed limit and lost control while driving the Starex [the name of the vehicle model] in the rain.” The source added, "According to the results received from the NISI, the back wheel did not fall off due to to a mechanical defect, but due to the impact of the accident."

Being that the case, the police have been looking through if the driver committed overspeeding, saying that the accident could have been prevented if the driver was within speed limits The police then reviewed the CCTV footage of the vehicle on the highway at the time of incident and also measured that the vehicle was around 130 kilometers per hour or 81 miles per hour being that the speed limit is 100 kph or at about 62 mph.

The police is deciding on making further questioning and then submit it to the prosecutor's office.
