For the first time since his rumored departure from SM Entertainment, EXO member Tao met his fans in his first public appearance. The idol was present at the joint celebration for his birthday and his latest film "You Are My Sunshine".

On this special day, Tao headed back to Beijing, China where he rented out an entire theatre to watch "You Are My Sunshine" with his fans.

His birthday celebration followed after the special block screening. During this juncture, Tao spoke to his fans and thanked them for supporting him, sharing that he's immensely happy to have the chance to share the best moments of his life with his fans. While relaying his message, Tao couldn't help but tear up.

"I will remain true to the promises I made to all of you. Please give me a bit of time. I will return eventually and I stand before you all once again," Tao said. While it is not certain if Tao was referring to his ongoing discussions with SM Entertainment regarding his contract, Tao did not address any question regarding the topic during the Q&A session with fans.

Tao also took to Instagram to post a photo from his special celebration in Beijing, making this his first update in a month since rumors surfaced of him splitting from EXO. Tao is seen crying in the photo as he looks up. In the caption, Tao wrote, "Thank you everybody for always being with me. I am absolutely thankful for everyone who believed in me. I love you all so much. Thank you!"
