Big Bang Talks About Weeks of Hunger During The Group's Rookie Days

Unlike these days that Big Bang can basically order any food they want, back in the day they had to be stingy when it came to food expenses.

Ever story of success is woven from moments of trials, hardships, and little victories. Big Bang's journey isn't that different; the five-member band also faced difficulties and seemingly insurmountable problems as they journeyed to reach their goals. In the May 21 episode of KBS' "Happy Together 3", the members shared the struggles they went through during their days as rookies.

G-Dragon started by revealing that the group's dorm wasn't at all comfortable. The guys had to cramp up in one small room and share mattresses inside an old building infested by mice. And although they had food, they only had enough to get them through the day. "Since [the manager] is always busy, there was a time he wasn't able to bring us food for weeks. When we came home from practice and excited to see food in the refrigerator, we were surprised to see that it was empty," Taeyang said.

Unlike these days that Big Bang can basically order any food they want, back in the day they had to be stingy when it came to food expenses. With just 5,000 won a day per person, the members had to strictly budget their expenditures together. T.O.P said, "We all liked this certain chocolate cracker made of wheat. We really liked it, but it was considered a luxury because it cost 500 won more than the other snacks. [One pack] contains 18 or 20 crackers inside, [so if we bought any] we would decide on how many we should eat per day and eat one at a time. Even though we were hungry enough to be able to finish it all in one sitting... we ate it very slowly, and savored it in our tongues."

Because of their food cravings, the boys came to a point where they would be suspicious about their manager hiding food in his own room. "We wondered if he stored food [in his own room] since we couldn't find food elsewhere in the dorm. After giving it much thought, we decided to break into his room." As they expected, the boys discovered a pile of snacks hidden under the sheets. "Our discovery crushed us. G-Dragon and I hugged each other [because of that]," Taeyang said. Although they already found the treasure cove, they couldn't benefit from their discovery because they might get caught if they took something.
