Wonder Girls' Ye Eun will be debuting for a TV drama for tvN titled, "Basketball."
The plot of the said drama is about the love and conflicts of youth during and after, Japanese occupation in Korea. Making basketball as their guiding light, the youth fight their way through the boisterous times. It will be the first drama of Director Kwak Jeong Hwan ("Chuno," "Fugitive: Plan B") after his transfer to CJ E&M.
Park Ye Eun is playing Bong Soon who is a maid with a dialect, with humour, and a warm heart. She stays by the side of the main character, Choi Shin Young (Lee Elliya). Even though this is her first drama, Ye Eun was praised by the director for her brilliant portrayal of the character.
On selecting the role of Bong Soon, Ye Eun stated that, "Because 'Basketball' portrays the lives of the upper class in the 1930s and 40s, I was tempted by the roles that get to wear the beautiful costumes. However, as a character that represents the common people during the Japanese occupation in Korea, Bong Soon was the most appealing to me."
The story of "Basketball" is adapted from the 1948 Korean National Basketball Team, which accomplished the achievement of placing in the top eight in the Olympics. It was the first and last time Korea joined the Olympics under the one name of "Korea," making it before the division of the Korean Peninsula. The lead characters are played by Do Ji Han and Lee Elliya.
The pilot episode will air at 10pm (KST) on October 21.
