Korean figure skating champ Kim Yuna and top actress Park Shin Hye has responded to the distress call of Nepal in light of the recent earthquake that hit the country. Nepal was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which took the lives of approximately 6,100 people.
Park Shin Hye recently donated $28,000 USD to the victims of the Nepal earthquake through Hunger Saver, which the actress is an active ambassador of. A representative of Hunger Saver said on April 30, "Park Shin Hye, who has been Hunger Saver's promotional ambassador since 2011, donated 30,000,000 won (approximately $28,000 USD) on April 27 to help those affected by the earthquake in Nepal."
The actress set a good example for her agency, S.A.L.T Entertainment, which followed Park Shin Hye's lead and also donated 10,000,000 won (approximately $9,360 USD) to assist relief efforts in Nepal.
On April 28, it was reported that Olympic gold medallist Kim Yuna also opened up her heart to the victims of the horrific earthquake that shook. According to her reps, Kim Yuna, who has been UNICEF's goodwill ambassador since 2010, donated $100,000 through UNICEF. According to the Korean Committee for UNICEF, Kim Yuna made the donation in hopes of providing food and potable water to the children living in earthquake-affected areas.
To encourage people to donate, Kim Yuna also took to Twitter to promote UNICEF's efforts in assisting children in Nepal who have been badly scarred by this tragedy. She also called for her Twitter followers to help in whatever way they can.
