Hyolyn: "I Didn't Expect This Much Hype Over My Solo Album, But I'm Thankful"

In her recent media showcase, Hyolyn dishes out personal details about her solo debut and the reason why she chopped off her three-years-in-the-making long locks.

SISTAR’s resident diva Hyolyn is currently making a huge buzz over her solo debut especially after he much lauded performance with multi-Grammy awardee Stevie Wonder during the recently concluded 2013 MAMA. Hyolyn hosted a media showcase on November 26 at the Ilchi Art Hall in Cheongdamdong, Seoul where she also spoke about her goals for her solo endeavour.

Hyolyn shared, “I feel very lucky to have this opportunity to debut solo since I also worked hard as a member of SISTAR. I put a lot of effort into this project, so I’m really excited. I will work hard even more to also make my SISTAR co-members proud.”

The singer, who also performed “Lonely”, “One Way Love”, “Massage”, and “Stalker” at the showcase also explained her reason for her chopping off her locks. “It was hard for me to let go of my long hair since I’ve kept it that for 3 years since SISTAR’s debut. But I had this desire show a different side of me, that’s why I went for it. In SISTAR, we had to adhere to a concept as a group, that’s why for my solo debut I wanted to do things my way. I’m really happy to be singing songs that I wasn’t able to perform with SISTAR. I really hope I get the chance to perform all my songs live.”

Hyolyn’s debut was one of this year’s most anticipated. But despite the success her album has achieved, which has consistently performed well on charts since November 26, Hyolyn remained humble. “I didn’t pay much attention to it because I put most of my time and effort on preparing for my showcase. I didn’t expect people to pay this much attention just because Hyolyn was releasing her solo album. That’s why I really want to thank everyone. I will definitely do my best so as not to be a disappointment.

“I spent a lot of time and effort to show people that Hyolyn can do so much more—that I can do whatever style or genre and still deliver. Of course it is my biggest desire for everyone to love and enjoy the album and even get it to number 1, but certainly that’s not in my control. I can only hope that everyone pays attention to this album. That will make me happy. But most importantly, I just feel really thankful to everyone.”
