SBS' newest drama series "You Who Came From The Stars" just recently premiered this week. And as the cast and crew relish its debut success, famed cartoonist Kang Kyung Ok cries plagiarism, claiming that the said drama series copied the concept of her cartoon titled "Seolhee".

Kang Kyung Ok took to her blog on December 20 with an entry titled "What's happening?" Kang Kyung Ok explained that "Seolhee" took place 400 years ago during the time of Prince Gwanghae of the Joseon Dynasty. The main character is then taken under the care of aliens to maintain a youthful image for eternity. She lives for over 400 years and returns to Korea only to meet someone who looks exactly like a childhood friend.

Kang Kyung Ok pointed out the seeming similarities between "Seolhee" and "You Who Came From The Stars", and even added "The reference to a UFO from 400 years ago have been used in many other materials such as 'The Joseon X-Files'. The concept could be used in different ways. However, the setting in the drama is very similar [to my cartoon] except that the role of the male and female characters were switched. As for the overall plot, there are only a few differences between the two."

The cartoonist also shared, "I've been asked to turn 'Seolhee' into a drama before, but it never pushed through because at the time it was still incomplete."

Kang Kyung Ok's "Seolhee" is still on-going and now has nine volumes. SBS nor the production crew for "You Who Came From The Stars" have spoken about the allegation.
