The perpetrator behind IU's pregnancy and wedding rumourS, who was caught in late September, is now issued to perform 200 hours of community service as punishment for his acts of defamation.
The news was revealed by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' office, together with the statement announcing that IU's agency, LOEN Entertainment, has decided to drop all chargers on October 8, citing "no authority to prosecute or indict" the suspected individual on a serious crime.
Authorities further explained that the suspect, whose identity was not released in public and is only being referred to as "Person A", has reached an agreement with the "Modern Times" singer's agency to perform 200 hours of community service, given that all charges against him be dropped and nullified.
The investigative team in charge of the case caught the suspect by tracing the IP address he used to post comments on online community forums.
Hopefully, this strong reinforcement of the law will discourage and inform netizens about the consequences they would have to meet for spreading false and damaging rumours against artists. Other celebrities and agencies, such as YG Entertainment, also followed suit by enforcing aggressive legal actions against instigators behind hurtful comments directed at them.
