KBS Reporter Hwang Soo Kyung Files a Lawsuit Against TV Chosun!

The reporter sues the cable network for giving false information KBS reports, Hwang Soo Kyung, with her assistant prosecutor general husband, filed a lawsuit for TV Chosun due to damages and demanded to make a correction in the report the cable network made, that she and her husband had divorced, without checking if the rumour was true.

KBS reports, Hwang Soo Kyung, with her assistant prosecutor general husband, filed a lawsuit for TV Chosun due to damages and demanded to make a correction in the report the cable network made, that she and her husband had divorced, without checking if the rumour was true. The trial began on October 30 at the Seoul Central District Court.

With a total of seven people, including Hwang Soo Kyung, her husband, and actress and former reporter Jo Jung Rin, sued the head of media, as well as member sof the cast and production crew of the program. They are requesting 500,000,000 KRW in damages ( $470,000).

At the hearing, Hwang Soo Kyung's lawyer said, "TV Chosun has made no attempt to apologize for the false report, and since there was no apology, there was no correction, either."

However, TV Chosun's lawyer opposed, "We acknowledge that we took a rumour straight to TV broadcast. However, the program in question isn't formal news, but a program that lightly reports entertainment gossip. How many viewers would have actually taken the rumour to be true?"

When asked about making a correction on the report, they said, "Before the Press Arbitration Commission charges us with damages, we will not release a correction report."

Meanwhile this case was handled for correction through the Press Arbitration Commission and was passed on to the civil court.

In the meantime, TV Chosun's defence lawyer has said a need to have an agreement with the complainants.
