Production Team of "Inspiring Generation" Reveal They Spent 30 Billion Won To Reconstruct 1930's Shanghai

The production team of "Inspiring Generation" said they spent 30 billion to reconstruct the streets of old Shanghai atop 33 thousand square feet of land.

The production team of the latest KBS 2TV Wednesday-Thursday drama series "Inspiring Generation", which stars Kim Hyun Joong, recently revealed that they spent 30 billion to reconstruct the streets of old Shanghai atop 33 thousand square feet of land.

The production team had gone to Shanghai and Wuxi, China earlier to begin filming on location, to bring out the real-life sights and sounds of 1930 Shanghai on which the drama's story is set. However, filming all the way in China required more money, time, and manpower. And thus to cut down on expenses, the production crew built a replica of 1930's Shanghai in South Korea instead.

The site now stands in Yongin and is a perfect mirror image of the streets in Shanghai such as the Nanjing Road. The entire set-from buildings to lightings-was meticulously created by Korean film technicians.

The production team said, "'Inspiring Generation' will be travelling to different parts of the country to film on location, and capture the scenes of [1930's Shanghai] as vividly as possible. Fans can see the Yongin film set after this week's episodes."

The Mayor of Yongin also commented, "Video and media are the core of television drama. The construction of the set for 'Inspiring Generation' in Yongin City will help boost the media industry in the city. We are hoping that tourists from all walks will come visit Yongin to see the set and enjoy their time here."

The star-studded and big-budgetted drama series can be seen on KBS at 21:55 KST.
