EXO's Lay, the remaining Chinese member in the group, bared his honest thoughts on former members and fellow Chinese Kris, Luhan, and Tao in a special interview with Chinese news outlet Sina Entertainment.
As expected, Lay was asked to share his two cents on Tao, Luhan, and Kris' exit from the group. "If they're happy, then I'll give them my blessing. I hope that they succeed in until the end. However, I will follow a different path, a path of my own. I'm very strict when it comes to what I demand from myself. I do everything that I can do by continuously working hard." Lay's statement could be interpreted to mean that he's not going down the same path that the other three did. In a previous interview, Lay already expressed his intention of staying with SM Entertainment and keeping his promise to fans.
Lay was also asked if there are some fans who want him to return to China and pursue a career there, Lay answered, "If I were to be frank, I don't think I quite understand the trouble about going back or not. Am I not able to promote in China as of the moment? The members [of EXO] also say they miss me when they're not able to see me. Moreover, I left [China] when I was still 17 and even as I return now, I'm still a Chinese person. My heart has always been here."
SM Entertainment has allowed Lay to use a studio in China to allow him to promote in the country while still being under the care and guidance of the agency. This is a big leap for Lay who's now given more freedom to promote in China through this new settlement.
