"Doctor Stranger" Gaining Popularity in China

Another SBS drama series is making huge waves in China! Of the current list of drama series still on air, it seems that SBS’ drama “Doctor Stranger” is not only making waves in Korea, but in China as well! “Doctor Stranger” will soon be airing in China, as the license for the drama series has already been acquired by Chinese video website, Youku.

Of the current list of drama series still on air, it seems that SBS’ drama “Doctor Stranger” is not only making waves in Korea, but in China as well!

“Doctor Stranger” will soon be airing in China, as the license for the drama series has already been acquired by Chinese video website, Youku. Youki has since provided service to some Chinese download sites and file sharing sites as well.

So far, 10 episodes have begun airing in China and the episodes have averaged with 123 million views. In another Chinese video website called Tudou, “Doctor Stranger”’s average viewer count is around 25 million views.

Youku viewers who took an interest in “Doctor Stranger” rated the drama series a high score of 9.6, showing that the drama has made a huge appeal on Chinese viewers and in return are receiving love and support from the Chinese viewing populace.

According to sources, the drama series’ content could be one of the reasons contributing to its popularity in China. The show is not simply a romantic drama series or a medical drama series, it combines both concepts with a kick of mystery that make for an intriguing melodramatic story. Other than that, the fact that it stars well-known young Korean actors headlined by male lead Lee Jong Suk is also making the series a must-see. The main actors themselves, such as Lee Jong Suk, Jin Se Yeon, Park Hae Jin and Kang Sora, are also receiving a lot of love from China as well.

In addition to this, “Doctor Stranger” director Jin Hyuk is also quite popular in China due to his work on popular Korean drama series “City Hunter” and “Master’s Sun”

“Doctor Stranger” revolves around the story of a genius surgeon, Park Hoon (played by Lee Jong Suk) who deflects North Korea and lands a job in an upscale hospital in South Korea. On his way to South Korea, Park Hoon loses contact with his love Jae Hee, but ends up seeing a doctor who looks exactly like her. The mystery now builds up as Doctor Han Seung Hee, the doctor who looks like Jaee Hee, seems to be working for a man who has conflict with Park Hoon in North Korea
