Girls’ Generation gets another achievement on their list. On August 5, it has been reported that the girls' “best-of” album in Japan, entitled “The Best” has again topped the Oricon Weekly Albums Charts for the second week.
This makes a continuation of the group has established for being on top of the Oricon Daily Charts for 12 consecutive days, holding on to the spot since “The Best” has been released on July 23.
Girls’ Generation’s achievement on the Oricon Weekly Charts has already been notable for being the first consecutive-week chart-topping for a South Korean female artist in 10 years, ever since BoA‘s “Love and Honesty” in 2004.
“The Best” is Girls’ Generation’s third No. 1 on the Oricon charts since their debut. Before the success of “The Best,” Girls’ Generation has also hit No. 1 with their “The Girls’ Generation 1st Japan Album” released in June 2011 and their third regular album “Love and Peace” released in December 2013. This achievement has placed them in the position of the biggest Asian girl group outside Japan on the charts.
“Girls’ Generation has appeared at No. 1 on the Oricon charts before, however not for two consecutive weeks unike with ‘The Best,’” the Oricon web site stated, “BoA did this once in 2004, topping the charts from January 26 to February 2, but it has not happened again since until Girls’ Generation a decade after.”
Moreover, Girls’ Generation is among the SM Entertainment artists featuring in “SMTOWN Live World Tour IV” in Seoul on August 15.
