Heechul Expresses His Disappointment to'SM-produced Dramas'

It was another hot episode for the program, "Ssul Jeon," wherein the topic was about Korean remakes of Japanese dramas, making the remakes unsuccessful and most of it are produced by SM Entertainment. Heechul, being from SM, responds on what seems to be the reason.

An example made was Sulli and Minho's "To the Beautiful You" which was a remake of popular Japanese drama 'Hana Kimi'.

It was asked by one of the co-hosts of Heechul if he had ever participated in these kinds of dramas, Heechul replied, "I told them I would never do a drama produced by SM."

His reply made his fellow co-hosts intrigued and so they asked, "Why?"

Heechul, known for his honest and straightforward nature, said, "There's a singer team and then there's an actor team. But even the acting team, on areas like promotions and such, the agency promotes them too similarly to the way they promote singers. I'd always say something to them about this matter. I'm getting angry now thinking about it," insinuating that there should be more of a difference between the two teams and how the agency handles their promotions.

With this comment, Heechul's co-hosts were so surprised for him making those tough remarks and feeding some internal information making them say, "Wow, that's a very internal company talk."

No holds barred, the Super Junior member, continued in frustration, "If you look at it from our perspective, there are some parts to be thankful for as SM's mindset is, 'Our kids are the best so if our kids do it, then it'll turn out well'. If you watch a SM music video, you'll never see an actor or someone from outside the agency make an appearance since the agency's thinking is, 'Our kids are so cool, handsome, and the best, so why should we bring in anyone from the outside? Our kids are the best, so let's use them'. Because of that -"

To complete Heechul's thought, his co-host who was next to him said, "So they'll cast both male and female leads from the agency in the drama," then Heechul intensely bellowed, "But does that work?!" - implying that he believes SM's monotonous results from their drama productions are because of the outlook that they are only to recruit from the agency, instead of having other actors participate in lead roles.

Because of his frank comment, his co-hosts praised him and were impressed by being honest, though he is from the said agency.
