Red Velvet Talk About Their Reactions Towards Yeri's Addition to the Group

The members of Red Velvet shared their thoughts on Yeri becoming the fifth member. Rookie girl group Red Velvet welcomed springtime with their catchy new track "Ice Cream Cake" and their newest member Yeri.

Rookie girl group Red Velvet welcomed springtime with their catchy new track "Ice Cream Cake" and their newest member Yeri. The four-girl ensemble turned into a group of five with Yeri's inclusion in the group which surprised a lot of fans, but nevertheless showed a lot of love towards Yeri.

On the March 30 broadcast of SBS' "Kim Chang Ryul's Old School", the members of Red Velvet shared their thoughts on Yeri becoming the fifth member.

Joy, who was initially the group's maknae before Yeri stepped in, was asked how she felt about having the maknae title taken away from her. "I'm not upset. It's true that I'm not the maknae anymore, but at the same time I also feel a bigger sense of responsibility since I'm no longer a minor [and no longer the youngest]. Since my love for the team has grown bigger, I am willing to do anything for the group," Joy said.

Kim Chang Ryul then asked if Joy would be down to ruining her image as promise to fans for winning first place, Joy shared, "[My image] is already ruined. When we made a comeback and 'Ice Cream TV' began to broadcast, we did this thing where everyone would make an ugly face, but I thought that everyone was too pretty to ruin their image, so I just ruined my own. Stills of the scene are being shown everywhere."

Kim Chang Ryul then asked Yeri if it was difficult for her to join the group when it had already debuted. "I didn't go through any particular hardship in becoming a member of Red Velvet. But since I'm still a student, my friends in school would react 'Huh? It's Yeri?' which is a bit awkward," perhaps referring to the fact that even Yeri's friends still can't believe that it's her who nabbed the spot as Red Velvet's fifth member.
