Lee Joon sat down for an interview with Newsen on May 28 to talk about his drama series "I Heard It Through the Grapevine".
Like his previous acting projects, Lee Joon garnered positive feedback for his performance in "Grapevine". The singer-actor said that as the drama began to air, he also started to read articles and reviews. What he's read so far is putting a smile on his face. "I'm happy that there are people who are favorably viewing my performance. It's more than what I had expected. Much like all my projects, I'm always nervous [even in this one]. Even if I feel like I'm already satisfied with my performance, people can always have opposing views about it, so I always come prepared when I act," Lee Joon said.
He also revealed in the interview that it took PD Ahn Pan Seok 5 minutes to decide that Lee Joon is the perfect fit for the lead role in "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". "We had a meeting for two hours, but five hours into discussing things he told me, 'I like you. Let's do the drama. Inform your agency that you're going to do this drama.' That's how [I got the role]," the actor-singer narrated.
As to what made PD Ahn Pan Seok become so assured of Lee Joon so quickly, the actor said he hasn't figured that one out himself either. "I didn't even dress up for the meeting. I'm not confident with my bare face, but I just took a shower, dried my hair, and went [to the meeting]. [I wanted to appear very natural] and I think I came comfortable [with what I was doing]. I think that's what made him make up his mind about me."
Lee Joon shared that "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a very difficult project for him. Despite his nerves and fear, Lee Joon says he pushes himself hard to get the job done flawlessly, "Every line holds a deeper meaning, and I'm always concerned about missing something or not being able to execute my lines well. Thus, I keep practicing hard."
